Morris U15 Boys Rugby
2007 NJ State Champions
Join the Morris Rugby U15 boys tackle rugby program
The U15s are players who have not reached their 15th birthday on September 1st 2007 Generally, U15s are for boys in 7th, 8th and 9th grade. Players from any town may participate and no experience is necessary.
Winter Indoor practice sessions will be held at the Indoor Sports Pavilion in Randolph from 7-9pm each Thursday continuing through February 21st, 2008.
Finally, we will move outside in March to practice and compete in a full Spring game schedule which will likely include opponents from Union, Parsippany, St Peters (Jersey City), Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York, and even a traveling team from Canada!
This schedule will highlight the Jersey Cup championship on May 17th, 2008 where we will defend our 2 time championship!
Practice will be Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6-7:30pm, initially at the Mennan field in Morristown and moving to the Denville Pocono Rugby field when it opens in April.
There is a $125 application fee, which will include a team tee shirt. Game Jerseys will be provided, but each player will need to purchase shorts and socks for a nominal fee.
Bring: Mouthguard, Water, Rugby ball, dress for the weather. As always, do not wear any gear with profanity etc. We also suggest shoulder pads & headgear which are available for $40 each.
Cancellations or Changes: If practice needs to be canceled or changed, notice will be placed on www.weatherclosings.com under Denville, NJ sports & recreation, Denville Dawgs youth rugby. Please check this site often because the Denville fields will close if they are wet & we may move that practice to Mennan.
Commitment: Of course we would love it if the boys could make every practice and game, but we realize that many of them have other obligations. At the U15 level, we are most interested in introducing the full tackle rugby game to the boys. It is our hope that they will develop the same love for the game we have and will choose to stay with it, eventually playing for the U19 side, in college, and beyond. In short, we want them to have fun and learn the game. However, we do need the core of the team to be at practice in order make that practice effective. Therefore, it is our request that they make at least one practice per week and as many games as possible.
Communication: email is the easiest and most convenient way to let us know that cannot make a practice/game or just to communicate any other concerns. Of course, you may also contact us via phone at the above numbers as well.
Team Parent: Please consider volunteering to help Chris Golinski and sign on as a tem parent. Food for home matches, driving arrangements to away games, washing game jersey’s, and other organizational help is always welcome!
Summer Youth Rugby Referees & Coaches needed: We would welcome your boys help in our summer youth rugby program where they can help coach the younger kids or even make some money by refereeing games on Saturdays! Please contact Tom Feury if interested.
Older boys may join the Morris Lions Boys High School team and girls may join the Morris Lions Girls High School team. These teams run a schedule similar to the above and can take players from any school. They compete against other high school teams from the New York area. There is a separate application and fee structure for the high school teams.
